Current Research

Here are a few of the research projects we are currently involved with. Want more information or wish to be part of a study? Send us a message at: aphasia.uga@gmail.com

Mindfulness Meditation in Aphasia

Mindfulness meditation is a form of attentional training that improves self-regulation and cognitive control by fostering different types of attention. This study will examine attention, heart rate variability, and salivary cortisol in adults with aphasia following mindfulness meditation training. Given the robust evidence for links between attention and language, improved language function will also be assessed.

Executive Function in Aphasia

Adults with Aphasia have been shown to encounter deficits in attention and working memory. Although there is growing evidence demonstrating deficits in processing, there is less information regarding the abilities of the central executive. The central executive has been found to be important for many functional activities that may influence rehabilitation and quality of life. This study aims to determine what areas of the central executive are deficient in adults with aphasia as compared to healthy younger (18-35 years) and healthy aging (35-85 years) individuals.
